International 420 NEWS
Welcome to the first 420 news update of 2017.
Firstly I’d like to send a very big ‘well done’ to all of the Itchenor sailors who have competed at the recent Spring Championships and Youth Nationals at Hayling. For those that haven’t seen the club homepage ‘news feed’ Izzy Davies and Gemma Keers have been sweeping all before them at the start of the season with wins at the Inland Championships, Spring Champs and Youths. With strong performance from a number of other Itchenor members the club is being strongly represented on the national and international circuit.
With the Itchenor 420 Class winter training now complete the class is looking forward to the start of the club racing programme and our first main event of 2017, the Revision Regatta on the 28th and 29th May. More details will follow either via the website of the class ‘round robin’ email’. For those that can club racing is next programmed for Sunday 11th June.
With between 2-7 boats at each of the 5 sessions the 2016/17 Winter training has continued to build on the success of its 2015/16 inaugural year. Coached by Tim Riley (for all bar the last session) the training provided the first 420 experience for most of the crews. A baptism of fire in September with sailors seeing 20+knots was followed by much more sedate conditions for the next 4 weekends so there is nothing the sailors can’t now handle. I am looking forward to some strong JF performances from them all!
I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Tamsin and Jess Dodsworth to the club having joined in the Autumn – we look forward to seeing them both regularly throughout the season.
For those of you taking public exams over the course of the next few weeks I wish you all the very best of luck.
