New class captain, Richard Benson, has now taken over for Season 2020. Although not the frame for a Mirror Dinghy, you may see him crouched under the boom with a little person at the back. Richard is peak Mirror for 2020 with all three children sailing in the class next year. Richard joined the club in 2018 principally to enable his 3 children, now 11,9,7 to take up a sport he has so enjoyed. Richard grew up in Scotland, learning to sail at Loch Earn Sailing Club before competing all over the world in Flying Fifteens, J24 and various other competitive keelboats. Richard is a strong believer in creating a fantastic environment for youth sailing at Itchenor to grow, prosper and most of all to get everyone out sailing and having FUN!!
Mirror Raid to Dell Quay Report
Posted 31st May 2019
18 Mirrors, 40 sailors and 6 support boats set out on the first Saturday of half term for the Max Mirror raid to Dell Quay. We had 3 up, 2 up, some with parents, some with older kids as helpers and some just taking themselves, everyone was excited to be going on an adventure to a part of the harbour we don’t normally go and sail to. The Jones’s had very kindly offered their beach and garden as the venue for our raid, a Mirror main and jib marked the spot where we were to land. With the wind in the West we had to approach in a seaman like fashion and drop mainsails to land on the lea shore. This proved more tricky for some than others but a really good lesson that you can come in under jib alone and it makes the landing much easier and more controlled, hopefully some of them might remember this for the next time they have a lea shore landing at Itchenor!
As well as an adventure on the water, this year rather than having a picnic lunch for Max Mirror we had a Bake Off. There was a splendid array of cakes, bravely driven to Dell Quay by some of the mums, so that when we arrived there was an amazing spread of cakes and biscuits. After much deliberation Vicky Jones and I have decided on a winner, whose cake had the most amazing beach decoration, complete with waves, sand, a surfer and sunbather, all made out of icing - well done to Archie Aylwin! The runner up was Phoebe Perry for her Max Mirror decorated delicious chocolate brownies.
Once the kids were full of cake and the adults were full of Pimms and tea the boats were carried back to the beach and launched for the sail home, a few capsizes and running aground in unfamiliar territory and we were back in time for supper.
I would like to say a big thank you to the Jones’s on behalf of the Mirror fleet for having us all for the afternoon and for everyone who came and took part.

We have a busy couple of weeks coming up for the Mirrors starting with the first of our coached racing sessions this Sunday, 19 May. Start time is 11am from the Bandstand. Briefing will be at 10.30am.
Max Mirror Raid to Dell Quay, Saturday 25 May, 2.00pm briefing rigged and ready.
Max Mirror is back but this year we are going to sail to Dell Quay and land at Martin and Vicky Jones's house for tea on the lawn. We will be having our very own Bake Off so please bring a cake if you would like to bake! (there will be a number of support boats going down so cakes can put in these).
If you haven't already signed up please do so asap as we need to have an idea of numbers, kids and adults are all allowed to sail!
We need parental support on this event both on the water and also for when we land at Dell Quay so please let me know what you can help with.
If you would like to have a teenager in the boat with your child/children please let me know, we have a list of willing helpers, I suggest renumeration of £10 to said teen.
Revision Regatta, Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May 11.10 start
This event is for kids only and is one of our Grand Prix events. There will be 2 back to back races. Its a good warm up for Junior Fortnight.
Mirror Southerns Open Meeting and Coaching, Saturday 1 June and Sunday 2 June
I've reinstated the Mirror Southerns Open Meeting this year and we already have a number of visitors. It would be great to have a good turn out from the home team and its a great experience for our kids to sail against people from other clubs. This is an Open event so adult and kid combinations as well as kid and kid combinations and single handers are all allowed.
There will be a Mirror Dinner on the Saturday night as I thought it was about time we had a social event!
Entry forms and NOR are on the ISC website under Sailing, Open Events.
On the Sunday morning we are very fortunate to have ex Mirror World Champion Chris Balding coming to do a coaching session. Please also sign up for this session so we know how many to expect.
Members Room - Games Room
The Members Room now has a table football table in it as well as some indoor/outdoor beanbags. During Junior Events this room will be for the Juniors only to use up till 9.30pm, so if you are coming to the club in the evening the kids no longer need to be bored they can go and amuse themselves over in the Members Room! Balls are kept behind the bar and need to be returned when the games have finished.
Finally, the club has been donated a couple of Mirrors to charter out, so if you don't have your own boat and want to take part in any of the events that are on, or even just take one for a sail please get in touch with either me or Ryan in the office.
That's it for now, any questions give me a call.
Posted 16th April 2019
I hope the Easter holidays are going well. Ryan in the office is sending this out for me as I’m in Argentina with limited Wi-Fi!
The sailing season is starting for the Mirrors next week, with a couple of RYA courses being run by Ryan at the club. For more information on those please contact Ryan directly.
Easter weekend we have the first of our Grand Prix series, these are open for everyone to join in, parent and child combos as well as child only ones. You will be sent an email from club to class (assuming you have signed up to receive them!) for each race asking you to indicate whether you are sailing or not, whether you need crew etc. It would be great if you could use the links on the side of the email to say what you are doing, then everyone can see what boats are going and if they can help with the crew.
Easter Monday we have a fun race which from memory I think is a club line start. Weather permitting this a fancy dress race, Easter themed with prizes awarded for the best dressed boat.
Easter Weekend Race Timings:
Friday - T 14:30 b2b Warming Pan/The Rookwood Cup (Grand Prix)
Saturday - T 14:30 b2b Warming Pan/The Rookwood Cup (Grand Prix)
Monday - % 11:20 b2b Themed Fun Race

You should have all received an email from Club 2 Class. If you want to carry on receiving emails from me then please follow the link from this email and set yourself up on Club 2 class. It may be in your spam or junk folder so please look out for it. Once set up it is advisable to add the club 2 class email address to your address book so that it doesn't go into junk in the future.
The programme for this year will come up on club 2 class as well as being on the ISC website. Please take a look and put the dates in your diary, we have lots of different things going on this year.
Mirror Raid to Dell Quay, Saturday 25 May
Instead of going to the beach for our May bank holiday raid we will instead be going down to Dell Quay to Martin and Vicky Jones's house for tea. This event is free but please bring some cake! If you would like to have a teenager in the boat with your kids please let me know. Likewise if you would like to sail down to Dell Quay with your kids then this is also fine.
If you have older kids who would like to volunteer their services to sail the little kids down please let me know as I will be making a list of willing helpers - things like this can go on UCAS forms, as well as helping towards DI qualifications etc.

The sun is shining and I'm starting to think about spring and sailing again. We've got some things coming up that need signing up for:
1. The Club jetty needs urgent repairs - especially where the Mirrors and Fevas live and we need volunteers to make good. If we don't step up and volunteer then we will end up having to pay someone to do it which could run into the £1000's!!! The club are providing free lunch and a pint. If you are around and can help please can you let the office know.
2. Training courses - these can now be found under the training tab on the ISC website. Ryan the new sailing manager is running lots of proper RYA courses this year, kids will get the RYA handbook and a certificate at the end of the course if they complete that stage. No parental involvement is required! The first training sessions are being run 17-19 April and there are currently the following spaces left:
RYA Stages 1-3 – 4 spaces left
RYA Start Racing – 3 spaces left
RYA Advanced – 4 spaces left
If you would like to take part please book in asap via the website.
3. I am about to migrate the Mirror Newsletters to Club 2 Class which will require everyone to accept an invitation from Club 2 Club in order to receive emails from me in the future. I will assume that if you don't respond and accept you no longer want to receive emails. To that end please can you put the following email in your address book so that it doesn't go into your spam folder: firstname.lastname@example.org

We had a sailing committee meeting last night and there are a few things that need actioning:
1. Club handbook - if you DON'T want your details to appear in the handbook you need to actively opt out, let the office know.
2. Boat details in the handbook - please can everyone check the boat details that are in this year's handbook and let me know by the next Friday 9 Nov if there are any amendments to be made as otherwise the same details will go in the book - ie if you have bought or sold your boat.
3. Safety boat courses - Ryan, the new sailing manager, will be running safety boat courses next season which I would strongly recommend anyone who is intending on doing a safety boat duty attend whether in club racing or JF. This will cover how to sort out a capsize, get boats off the mud, come alongside a boat or jetty safely etc. Even if you have PB2 already but are unsure how to deal with a safety situation it would be really worth attending.
4. Grand Prix events - Next season we will be running 4 Grand Prix weekends alongside the other Junior classes. There will be individual winners for each event and an overall winner for the whole series. Prizes will be for kid only boats as well as adult and child combos. We will also be running fun races and normal club racing hopefully from a club line start.
5. 2019 Programme - The provisional programme is below. If you would like to sign up for a coached racing slot please let me know asap as your name will then go into Duty Man before it goes live on 1 Dec.

A couple of things for the diary for next year:
2019 Mirror Nationals 11 - 14 August, Poole YC
The Nationals date and venue are now decided. Poole is harbour racing, a bit like Chichester and is only a 2 hour drive from ISC. The Nationals are a really fun event, it's fairly low key (no coaches or pushy parents here) but great racing and some stiff competition at the front of the fleet and a great mix of kids, and adult and kids boats. Nationally it's a really friendly fleet and we've made some new friends from other clubs over the last few years. Bully and George will be going again, anyone want to join them?
Club2Class email migration
I am going to be moving the Mirror correspondence over to Club2Class next season which will enable people to indicate whether they are able to come to club racing, events etc. If you no longer want to receive Mirror news please can you let me know before I migrate all the email addresses over.
Club racing dates are being finalised and I will shortly be sending out dates. For those of you who have indicated you would be interested in helping out in the coached racing I will be asking you to let me know which weekends you will be able to do so that we can get your name on the duty list before it goes live.

I'm in the process of putting together a programme for next year and am proposing the following. Please can you let me know if this is the kind of thing you want, what you want more of and what you want less of. What dates are good and what dates really don't work because of school etc. To that end I've paired back sailing in termtime as these are not well attended, put more racing in the holidays before JF, and made most of our starts club line so we don't have to spend 40 mins sailing out to the start line. I'd really like it to work for the majority of you and be something that your kids want to come and do. Also just because there is nothing organised doesn't mean if its a glamour weekend we can't do something ad hoc and last minute!
13/14 April Spring Training

7 Oct, 10.35am Final club race of the season - 2 back to back from Transit.
This weekend we had 5 Mirrors out and they had a good couple of races, final trophy is still up for grabs, will it be you? You have to be in it to win it!
20 October, 6.30 for 7pm - END OF SEASON PARTY/DINNER IS BACK ON! Put the date in your diary. This will also be the Mirror Prize giving. Further details to follow.
If you have any club trophies (not JF ones) please can you return to the club by this weekend as the engraver is coming in and obvs I need them back to hand out again!
Programme 2019 - READ ME
I'm in the process of planning the programme for 2019 so if there is anything you would like to see on it please let me know - ie more club line starts, more coached racing, racing on particular days, times etc. I would love to see the club buzzing with kids going sailing when we have our racing on so please let me know what we can do to facilitate that better.
This year I would like to add some more coached racing as the kids really enjoyed the coached racing sessions we did this year, but this is totally reliant on parent involvement. You don't need any formal qualifications just be able to sail yourself and have done some racing to get involved in the coaching. Please let me know if you would like to get involved, this will be one of your club duties!
We are also planning on training up people to run the racing working alongside those who are already competent so again if you would like to get more involved in the race management side please let me know. This could be anything from being on the race committee boat to being on a rescue boat and being a competent crew, particularly useful for JF where we desperately need more competent rescue boat crews.

Mike Wigmore, Rear Commodore Sailing and Andy Fitzgerald are holding a Dinghy Forum next Sat night (29th September at 6pm) to talk about the take up by the dinghies of club racing which is variable to say the least. If you would like to come along and join in the discussion as to how we can improve that and what is needed then please see details below. If you are interested in making our club racing offering better suited to what you want to do then please come along.
My last email mistakenly had Amanda Heath's email as the respond to email, if you want to respond to it please can you email me rather than Amanda!

Winter Training - 20/21 Oct 2018 & 13/14 April 2019
Sign up forms for Winter Training are now on the ISC website down the bar on the right hand side. Cost is £35 per person per weekend.
Please can anyone with a trophy from club racing last year please take back to the office by the beginning of October so they can be sent to the engraver.
Mirror Prize Giving
Unfortunately my plan to have a dinner at the club on 20 October has been scuppered as Nick now has 2 dinners and the club AGM as well.
So straw pole - who would like to do something in the run up to Christmas and who would rather we did early drinks in the bar and I hand out the prizes for this year on 20 Oct? Let me know!
We still have some races left for the final trophies of the season. George and I will be out on 30 September, weather permitting, anyone coming to join us? Martin - rematch?

Autumn Training update
We've amended the dates for the Autumn/Winter training as there has been a lack of uptake for the monthly training due to school commitments. Therefore we are proposing the following training sessions:
20/21 October - to include end of season party and Mirror prize giving - open to all
13/14 April 2019 - pre season warm up session
You will be able to book either both weekends or separately if you know you can only do one weekend. Cost will be £50 per person per weekend. Please can you let me know if this is of interest.
If you have a trophy for club racing from last year (NOT JF) please could you return it to the office by beginning of October so that we can get them engraved in time for the party and prize giving.
There is still some club racing to be done this season so if you fancy having a go at winning a trophy come along.
Sunday, 8 September - 11.05 2 back to back races, club line start
Saturday, 15 September - 14.00 Barts Bash pursuit race, start from Transit
Sunday, 30 September - 11.20 2 back to back from Transit
Sunday, 7 October - 10.35 2 back to back from Transit - LAST RACE of the SEASON

Dates for this years Autumn/Winter Training are now finalised and are as follows:
Sign up forms will be out later next week so please keep an eye on the website if you would like to join in. Cost tba once I have worked out the budget! This training is open for school years 5 and above and participants must have drysuits or suitable attire for winter sailing, be able to use a spinnaker and be willing to spend a good part of the day on the water.
If you haven't already indicated to me that you'd like to join in but would like to please can you let me know.
Youth and Junior Regatta, TOMORROW
First start is at 11.10 and weather improving for tomorrow with breeze dropping as the day goes on and SUNSHINE!
Posted 19th August 2018
Its been a busy summer sailing and we've been blessed with amazing weather for most of it.
Mirror Nationals, Ullswater
9 teams from Itchenor and families went up to Ullswater in July to the Mirror Nationals. 3 days of racing was planned but no wind on the first day led to a drift around and then racing postponed to the following day. From then we had two good days of racing in a very competitive fleet of 44 boats, comprising of Olympic Silver medalists, World Champions,a Dutchman who had done a Star campaign to those who had never done a Nationals before.
Team Itchenor didn't manage to bring as many trophies home as last year but everyone sailed really well in the tricky shifty conditions. Polly Ewart Smith and Eleanor Thomas brought home the only silverware, the Endeavour Trophy, well done girls. We all had a great time and it was lovely to meet fellow Mirror sailors from other clubs and make new friends. Ullswater provided a stunning location with plenty of other outdoor activities to keep us occupied when the wind didn't play ball, including rock jumping, paddle boarding, Mike and Milly starting their Olympic campaign in a 470 with Catherine as chaperone or maybe Milly and Catherine, still to be decided!
Well done to all those who took part, results as follows: Richard and George Bullock 6th, Tom Glaister and Fred Langhorne 17th, Tom Ewart Smith and Ollie Clifford Bowles 18th, Alice Bullock and Alice Turner 20th, Henry Jones and Anthony Harvey 27th, Issy and George Massey 28th, Hattie Glaister and Allegra Massey 34th, Emilia House and Lottie Glaister 35th, Polly Ewart Smith and Eleanor Thomas 37th.
Junior Fortnight has now been and gone, well done to all those who took part and all those who won a prize. However its not the end of the sailing season as we still have a number of events to come.
ISC Youth and Junior Regatta, Saturday 25 August
11.10 Mirror start from Transit
We will be running a number of back to back races and it would be great to see as many of you as possible out on the last event of the summer holidays. Last year's event was a great fun day on the water.
This year's Winter Training has been revised and renamed Autumn Training and we will be running 4 weekends throughout the Christmas term, dates are currently being finalised but we will have one weekend a month Sept through to Dec. If you would like to take part it would be great if you could let me know so I can have an idea on numbers. This year we are opening the training for the Mirrors up to those in Year 5 who would like to take part, please bear in mind we will be going out in all weather so drysuits from November onwards are a must. Autumn Training is aimed at those moving up to or taking part in Mirrors 2 and will be aimed at improving racing skills and techniques. It's a great way to improve your sailing over the winter, all of the top boats in JF 2018 attended Winter Training!
And finally Club Racing. We have a number of club races left throughout September and October - dates are in the handbook so if you are around and would like to come sailing then please turn up, without your participation there is no point us running the races! Its your club so please use it!
Posted 27th June 2018
Hope you are all enjoying this amazing weather, it looks set to continue into the weekend and next week! We've not got any organised sailing this weekend but why not just go for a sail in this lovely weather.
No official racing on Sunday - this is a change to the programme - but if anyone wants to run bandstand racing then please let me know. We don't have any club ribs to use as rescue but if parents want to go out and do that if anyone wants to be race officer please let me know.
Mirror Nationals - Closing date for entries is Friday 6 July then late entry fee will apply.
If anyone has any trophies from last year and isn't going to the Nationals if you leave them in the office before 20 July I will pick up and take them up - can you just let me know you are doing so. I think it's just the Hantrais but might be wrong?
Measurement - If anyone has any sails they want Mimie to measure before we go up please can you let me know asap. If you are unclear on whether your sails are measured or not drop me a line and I'll tell you what to look for!
Mirror Training Weeks
If you want your kids to do Mirror Training Weeks please can you sign up asap. There are some spaces left but we will be doing the pairings early next week.
Again if you haven't signed up for JF yet and are intending to participate then please can you sign up asap as Sophie Barnes is trying to sort out the duty roster.

Hope you are all enjoying the continuing sunshine and good sailing breezes. This weekend CYC have their club regatta on Saturday afternoon. Anyone wanting to take part (I would expect the Mirrors to be in the slow handicap fleet) please speak to the office at ISC about signing on.
Sunday, 17th June
We are holding another learn to sail and coached racing session which is open to everyone. We will be concentrating on starting and going up wind this weekend and will be running some practice starts followed by 2 - 4 races.
Briefing at 10.30 on the jetty, boats rigged and changed please.
We have some more experienced sailors coming out to practice as well as our littler ones so all abilities welcome to join in.
If you know you are planning on coming along please let me know so we know to expect you.

After a week of slightly dodgy weather we had a glorious weekend again and it was fantastic to see so many Mirrors out on the water. The Itchenor Regatta on Saturday saw 12 Mirrors taking part, we were the largest dinghy fleet on the water so well done everyone, with a mixture of children and adults taking part. First Mirror were Chris and Lucy Fox.
On Sunday we held our first coached racing session and focussed on the start line. We had 3 practice starts then 4 short races and by the end of the session the gap between the front and the back had shortened considerably and most boats were on the start line at the gun. A big thank you to all the parent instructors who ran the session.
This Saturday, 9 June we are holding our 2nd Learn to Sail session. Briefing will be at 2pm with boats rigged and sailors changed and ready to go out please. If you would like to come along please can you let me know so we have an idea of numbers.
Sunday, 10 June
10.40am 2 back to back races starting from Dolphin.
If you came to our coached racing last weekend then please come and join in with the club racing and show us what you have learnt!
Mirror Nationals, 25-27 July 2018, Ullswater YC
Entries are now open for this event. There are a number of us going up from Itchenor SC so if you fancy coming along its a great event and a good way to start racing on the national circuit. Camping is free!
Entry is via the Mirror Class Association website at http://www.ukmirrorsailing.com, no previous experience of national championships necessary!
Hope to see you on the water at some point this weekend.

Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather. It was great to see so many of you on the water last weekend and making the most of it!
We have a lot of sailing to be had in the next few weeks starting off with the coming Bank Holiday weekend:
Saturday, 26 May Max Mirror Mission
If you haven't already signed up for this but still want to come please can you do so with the office first thing tomorrow as I am then going to shut the list as we need to do the pairings and groupings and there are only so many times I want to keep changing it!
Sunday 27 - Monday 28 May Revision Regatta and Winter Training
The Revision Regatta is open to all Mirror sailors not just those doing Winter Training. If you would like to join in with the racing the briefing will be held on shore at 13.00 on both days. Please can you let me know if you would like to race and are not doing Winter Training so that I can let the coaches (who are running the racing) know how many to expect.
For those doing Winter Training it is the usual start time of 9.30 on both days.
Half Term week
There are a few of us around this week who are planning on going sailing in a combination of Mirrors, Toppers and Fevas. If you would like to come along and join in please let me know. Timings to be decided when we see what weather doing!
Saturday, 2 June Itchenor Regatta
The Mirrors have a start time of 14.25 from Transit. Please can you let me know if you are planning on taking part. Entry fee includes tea and I think there may also be rowing races for those not sailing.
Sunday, 3 June Club racing with coaching
11.05 2 back to back races from Transit
Normal club racing but we will also be coaching and may focus on an aspect of the race, ie the start or mark rounding and will give a little briefing before hand at 10am.
Saturday, 9 June Learn to Sail
14.00 Briefing on the jetty. We will be running a similar session to last year with a briefing onshore followed by some fun exercises on the water. Parents more than welcome to sail with their children for this if your kids are not up to sailing with another child yet. As this is entirely run by volunteers we would ask that parents do not drop and run!
Sunday, 10 June Club Racing
10.40 2 back to back races from Transit - a chance to test what you learnt on 9 June!
That's enough for now! Hope to see you all on the water at some point over half term.

Just a gentle reminder to sign up for the Max Mirror beach raid if you are planning on coming and haven't already done so. We do have a finite number of places and will shortly begin the pairings and groupings for the day. Entry form is under the Youth section of the ISC website, Max Mirror Beach Raid.
If you are new to the fleet, Max Mirror is an ideal entry into the class. The children are paired up, some with a teenager depending on their confidence and ability. We all sail to the East Head beach, play some games and have a picnic and then all sail home again. This is an entirely parent led day which has been running for some years now and one of the highlights for the younger and less experienced kids. Water pistols obligatory!
Bank Holiday Weekend
Well the forecast is for sun, sun and more sun, hoorah! We have 2 back to back races on both Sunday and Monday morning starting from Transit. There is a trophy up for grabs for the winner of the weekend. If you've been waiting for the weather to warm up before going afloat this year then now is your chance! It would be great to see lots of you out on the water.
Please see message from Jeremy Pudney re the 2000 launch this weekend. This is aimed at all of you who either don't know how to sail or are not very confident but would like to be able to join in.........
CALLING ALL MIRROR FAMILIES - MAKE A DATE - THIS SUNDAY 6th May- 1200 AT THE CLUB.
I am one of the Ambassadors for our new 2000 Class and I think it is a Class that could/should be of interest to many Mirror Families.
I have put two lots of kids through Junior Fortnight, indeed our whole brilliant Junior Programme.
And now my grandchildren are going through their final years. And during all these enjoyable years, it became very evident that there were many parents who never got sailing themselves! Either because they had lost their confidence or because they had never learnt how to do it. Above all, there was NO SUITABLE CLASS in which they could regain their skills or learn how to do it!
The Club let me buy the Vision and then a 2000 to help to overcome these barriers and this has now led to three spanking new 2000’s available for hire. They now provide the vehicle for the whole family to enjoy the pleasures of sailing, in all it’s different forms and levels of skill. Whether its a gentle cruise to East Head, learning the fun of trapezing
or a very relaxed race against other families trying out the 2000. Or even the Uni daughter taking her boy friend out, on that rare visit back to the Club!
The 2000 can be the glue that keeps all your family sailing over many years. And you can buy your own eventually for about £3000. I will help.
SEE YOU ON SUNDAY for a glass or two and a chat. Jeremy P Pudney
Posted 30th April 2018
Well done to all those who braved the return to winter weather this weekend and came sailing on Sunday. We had a couple of short races to keep us warm and it was good to see those of you who ventured out on the water.
A few things to mention this week:
Sunday 6 & Monday 7 May - Bond Prize Trophy Weekend
Sunday 6 May - 10.45am start, 2 back 2 back races from Transit
Monday 7 May - 10.40am start, 2 back 2 back races from Transit
Weather forecast for the bank holiday weekend is currently looking good with sunshine and temperature twice what it is today!! If you haven't been out in your Mirror yet then this is the weekend to dust it off and come racing. There is a trophy up for grabs for the winner of the weekend.
Max Mirror Beach Raid - Saturday, 26 May
If you haven't signed up for this already please do so. Entry forms are found on the youth section of the ISC website.
If your kids are planning on doing it and you can help out on the day either on or off the water then please let me know.
Cost is £20 per child (significantly lower than last year) and covers pack lunch, teenage helpers and sweets!
This is a great way to meet other young aspiring Mirror sailors at the club and have a fun day sailing to the beach, playing some games over lunch and sailing home again.
Itchenor Regatta - Saturday 2 June
The club is planning on changing the format of this event and would like to make it more of a fun day for all the family with games and other activities both shore and water based to run along side the sailing. We are looking for volunteers to help run some of the other things we would like to do so if you are interested please can you let me know.
Junior Fortnight entries are now open and I have a couple of people looking for helms for Mirrors 3 / 4. Please let me know if you would like me to hook you up.

Max Mirror Mission Beach Raid - 26 May

Adult Helpers - we will also need adult volunteers and rib/motor support as this event is entirely run by parents, without whom we cannot run the event so again if you would like to and can help with this please let me know. Its a fun day out to the beach!
Sunday, 29 April 2 x back to back races
10.40am start from Transit
Tide will be coming in for most of the racing so make sure you leave enough time to get to start area, probably around Galleon reach, Wear area.
Hope to see you on the water soon.

Hope you have all wintered well and there are no ski related injuries!
The 2018 sailing season has officially started and although the Easter holidays was a bit of a wash out we have been promised much warmer weather and sunshine this weekend!
This Sunday, 15 May, we have 2 back to back races:
10.45 start from Transit
It would be great to see some of the Mirrors out and taking part, this is the first of the Brigg Cup and Plate series, so if you fancy winning some silverware in the prize giving in December come sailing!
We have a full programme of Club sailing across Mirrors, Toppers and Fevas this year and are keen to try and get as many juniors on the water for weekend sailing as per the handbook schedule and us Class Captains would welcome your thoughts on encouraging and maximising participation.
Junior Fortnight 2018
Entries for JF 2018 are now open under the youth section of the club website. If you are looking for a helm or crew then please let me know and I can try and pair you up.
The schedule for the Mirrors is as follows:
Early AM - Mirrors 3 and 4
Late AM - Mirrors 2
PM - Mirrors 1
You can therefore sail in 3 / 4 followed by 2 and then on to 1 if you so desired!
Junior Training Weeks
Entry for this is also now open, under the youth section of the club website. We run 2 weeks of Mirror Training prior to JF and it's an ideal way for those who either haven't done the club Winter Training or any or much club racing to have a bit of tuition before launching into JF. 1 week can be chosen from the 2 weeks available.
If you have any older teenagers who have their DI or would like to apply to be assistant sailors during the training weeks (they get paid) then similarly application for this is also under the youth section of the club website.
Thats it for now, heres hoping the promised sunshine appears!

Its only 2 weeks until our sailing season officially starts - yippee!
Warming Pan Trophy - Easter Weekend
We are kicking off the season with the Warming Pan Trophy weekend with 2 races each day on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. 4 races to count and the winners will get the lovely Warming Pan trophy at our prize giving in December and some glassware at the end of the weekend. Obviously the weather will be glorious so it would be lovely to see some enthusiastic Mirror sailors out over the weekend!
Start of Season Party - Saturday 7 April - 7pm - Midnight or whenever you want to go home!
Tickets are now on sale for the Start of Season party on Saturday 7 April, please phone the ISC office to book.
£16.50 for adults
£12 for children
Starts at 7pm with food for the kids early doors.
We have a live band, The Naked Base, who by all accounts are very good, bowl food and the bar will be heaving!
Its been a really good night the last few years with a good turnout from the Junior fleets.
This is the Saturday night of the next Winter Training so will be our Junior Fleets social that weekend. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible.

SAVE THE DATE.......
Mirror Nationals 2018, 25-27 July, Ullswater Yacht Club
The dates for the 2018 Mirror Nationals have now been confirmed and they will be held at Ullswater Yacht Club in the beautiful Lake District the week before JF. If you have never been to a Nationals but would like to come and give it a go this would be the perfect opportunity, in a relatively sheltered location and is the ideal warm up for JF. Last year's Mirrors 1 and 2 winners both attended the Nationals the week before!
We had a team of 7 boats from ISC last year and it would be great if we could get similar or better numbers this year, especially as we have the largest Mirror fleet at ISC. The Bullocks will be taking 2 or 3 boats again this year, anyone else want to come and join us? It's a great introduction to sailing outside of Itchenor, different venue and conditions and a chance to meet other sailors from around the country.
If you are interested and would like to know more please contact Milly Bullock, Mirror Class Captain.

2017 Mirror Nationals, Restronguet, Cornwall
Posted 31st July 2017
The victorious team from Itchenor have just returned from a fantastic week’s sailing at the 2017 Mirror Nationals in Restronguet, Cornwall. 50 boats had entered and there was an international flavour to the Nationals this year with Australian and South African teams competing, over here for the Mirror Worlds that start next week, and it was good to be able to race against not only people from other British clubs but those from abroad as well. The race team laid on 10 races over 3 days with a mixture of windward/leeward and triangle courses. We had a lot of wind and waves to surf on with some exhilarating spinnaker reaches to the finish and as you can see from the photo everyone has come home smiling! It was a really fun weeks holiday and we’ve all come back looking forward to next year’s Nationals, maybe some more of the Itchenor fleet would like to come and join us?
On to the results, congratulations go to Richard and George Bullock who sailed a very consistent regatta to finish 3rd overall. Maddie Hantrais and Emilia House were 10th overall and 1st under 19, Tom Ewart-Smith and Monty Heath were just behind them in 11th. Milly Bullock with a mixture of Zara Bullock and Clare Hantrais (who said Mirrors were just for kids!) came 16th. Alice Bullock and Laura Hantrais came 31st and won the trophy for Endeavour and Charlie and Edward House came 42nd and got a special prize for politeness to the race officer. Itchenor once again had the best team and we have brought home the Fleet Shield for the 8th time.
The Mirror Worlds are starting on Monday 31 July and Philip and Felix Goodwin are flying the flag for Itchenor, best of luck to them.
Mirror News 8th June 2017
Learn To Sail, Saturday 10 May 1-4pm
We are still planning on running the Learn to Sail session this Saturday afternoon as the forecast is continually changing but currently the breeze is dropping throughout the day. Start time is 1pm and we may start shore based before heading out. If you would like to come along but haven't yet signed up please do so on the club website so we know to expect you.
Mirror club racing, Sunday 11 May
We've got 2 back to back races on Sunday morning, 1st start at 11.05am. Current wind forecast is 12 - 14knts. This is a great opportunity to come and have a go at racing if you haven't already and if you have, come and get some practice in before JF!
Mirror Mast needed for Worlds this summer
If anyone has a Mirror mast they want to sell please can you let me know as the MCA is looking for one to replace a broken one in one of their loan boats.
Mirror Worlds 2019, Sydney
I've been asked by the MCA to canvass opinion amongst the ISC Mirror fleet on the dates for the Mirror Worlds in Sydney 2019. Currently they are planning on the last day of the event being Sunday 6 Jan 2019. If anyone is planning on going but this clashes with beginning of term and so would therefore stop them from attending please can you let me know and I will pass on.
Hope to see some of you at the weekend.
Mirror News 2nd June 2017
Amazingly for half term the weather has been fantastic the last couple of days and its been great to see some of you out in your Mirrors this week making the most of it.
Max Mirror Mission last Saturday
Well, the forecast wasn't quite what we were expecting but as it turns out we had the best of the weather last Saturday. We had 24 Mirrors, 49 kids, 15 helpers and numerous parents in ribs on what was a pretty full on trip to the beach in a lot more wind than was forecast (topping out at 25kts on the way up!). The sailors did really well, it was a fairly long sail, a couple of capsizes and several people ran aground trying to stay out of the tide, but spirits remained high and were revived by a picnic lunch provided by Nick and his team at the club and some games on the beach - thank you Immy Pudney and Pippa Jones. The sail home was far less eventful, the breeze had died off and it was downwind the whole way. Once the boats were packed up and children dried off we had tea and cake on the lawn in the sun which finally decided to make an appearance! A big thank you to James & Cesca Leaver, Barnie & Amanda Hartley and Annabel Timberlake who all helped to make the day a success. Thank you also to all the other parents who helped out on the water and as trolley dollies on land and finally to all the teenagers who came to help sail the younger ones to the beach.
Learn to Sail, Saturday, 10 June, 1pm
The next Learn to Sail session will be Saturday 10 June. Start time is 1pm, in sailing kit, covers off. Hopefully we'll get weather like this week! We'll probably be finished 5pm I would have thought depending on the weather. Sunday, 11 June we have 2 back 2 back races in the morning so would be lovely if you wanted to come and join in those as well.
Enjoy the rest of half term and good luck next week for those of you with CE or exams!
Mirror News 16th May 2017
Max Mirror Mission, Saturday 27 May
If you haven't signed up for Max Mirror Mission but want to come and join in please can you do so asap. We are trying to sort out logistics and are aiming at doing the pairings this coming weekend so would be good to know who is planning on coming along so you don't get left out on the day!
Revision Regatta and last Winter Training, 28/29 May
Typo error on my last email - the last Winter Training and the Revision Regatta will be on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May. Plan is for winter training squad to have a coached session in the am followed by the Revision Regatta in the afternoon and on Monday. Exact timings tbc. Revision Regatta is open to all so if you are around over the bank holiday weekend would be great if you came to join in.
Mirror Open Meeting
We had a windy weekend this weekend, luckily as I ended up crewing with Bully in the last race on Saturday - who said it was a kids boat!! Conditions were great, sunshine, wind and we had 10 boats out on the water each day not necessarily the same crews. Andy Fitzgerald did great job as race officer banging off 3 back to back races each day in the growing south westerly. The weekend was won by Bertie and Charlotte Fisher, with Richard Bullock and various crews in 2nd and Annabel Turner and Emmy Walker in 3rd. Thank you to all who came along to support our class. I'm hoping to put some photos up on the ISC Mirror news page for you all to see and for those who didn't come what you missed out on!!
Mirror News 11th May 2017
Mirror Open this weekend 13/14 May
Weather looking great for the Open meeting this weekend, sunshine bit of breeze, so would be great to see as many as possible coming out to support this event. Racing is open to everyone, adults and kids alike and you can do either whole weekend or just one day. There will be a Mirror supper in the evening at 6.30pm with a kids menu and an adult menu, everyone eating together, all welcome to come to the supper even if you aren't racing. Registration is from 9am on Saturday and you can sign up in advance on the ISC website home page. If you would just like to come for the supper please phone the office to book in.
Learn to Sail weekend
We had our first Learn to Sail weekend and despite the strong winds we managed to get out on the water and practice our tacking techniques. A big thank you to the parent volunteers and to all those who came to take part, it was great to get you all on the water. Next Learn to Sail is on 10 June 1-4pm. If you haven't already signed up for this but would like to come along the sign up form is on the Mirror News page of the ISC website.
Max Mirror Mission Saturday 27 May
Sign up for Max Mirror Mission is on the ISC website. If you haven't already signed up for this please do so, spaces are limited. This is a great fun sail to the beach for games, picnic and a chance to make new friends.
Revision Regatta 28-29 May
The Revision Regatta this year will be held on the last winter training weekend. The regatta is open to everyone, not just those who have done the winter training. Plan is for the winter training squad to have some coaching on the Saturday morning, followed by the regatta in the afternoon and on Monday. If you haven't been on the water yet this year and want a break from end of year exam revision come along!
Hope to see you all this weekend.
Mirror News 2nd May 2017
Learn to Sail 6 May 1-4pm
It's our first Mirror "Learn to Sail" training this weekend (Saturday 1-4pm). We have a few victims but would welcome some more so if your children would like to come along and join in please sign up on the ISC website. If your child would like to come along but would like to sail with you, you are just as welcome as if they would like to sail with another child. These sessions are all about getting the kids on the water, learning or enhancing their skills in a non racing environment and hopefully having some fun! Open to all those not involved in Winter Training.
Mirror Open Meeting and Southern Traveller - 13/14 May
If you are thinking of doing this event please can you let me know as it would be good to get an indication of roughly how many home boats are planning on entering. This is a great event to start racing in a more formal setting than club racing without the hassle of towing your boat around the country as its in our home water!
Hope to see you all on the water soon, hopefully some of you this Saturday afternoon - be gentle with us!
MIRROR NEWS 26th April 2017
The summer term has started and brought with it some fantastic weather. We have already had a busy start to the season and the following are some dates for your diaries.
Sunday, 30 April 11am Back to Back Mirror race from Transit
16+ knts forecast with some sunshine so would be great to see some of you out sailing.
Learn to Sail sessions – 6 May, 10 June, 24 June
A group of kind volunteer parents and I attended an Assistant Dinghy Instructors course last weekend and we are now ready to run our Learn to Sail weekends, the first one is on Saturday, 6th May 1-4pm. The sessions are aimed at the 7yrs and over sailors who have not done the Winter Training and are aiming at Mirrors 3 or 4. Some knowledge of being in a boat would be good as this is not a complete beginners session unless accompanied by a competent sailor, who could be a parent. The aim is to improve basic sailing skills so that when they venture out for Junior Fortnight and Mirror Training Weeks sailing is less daunting and more fun. The sessions are not drop off, we will need some participation from parents or a designated adult either on shore or on the water. Please don’t forget to indicate on the online sign up form, which you would be happy to do. This is entirely run by volunteers who are giving up their time freely. Sign up forms are on the ISC website, either on the left hand bar or under the Mirror News page. Or click here Please note there is no charge for the training.
Mirror Open Meeting - 13 -14 May
We are holding the Southern Areas Traveller aka the Mirror Open Meeting on 13 - 14 May. This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend racing in a more formal setting, we will have our own committee boat and 3 back to back races a day. It is also a chance to race against visitors from other clubs and a good introduction to what racing is like on the circuit as opposed to club racing but with the comfort of sailing in your home club. Entry forms be live from tomorrow on the website for this and it would be great to see as many of you out there supporting Itchenor as possible. A particularly good opportunity for the Winter Training sailors to put what they have learnt into practice. There will be an option to just sail one of the days if you cannot make the whole weekend.
There will be a Mirror dinner in the evening for parents and children.
Max Mirror Mission – Saturday 28 May
Max Mirror Mission is the Mirror fleets annual raid to the beach for games and a picnic. It is great fun and a good way to meet other kids at the club and have some fun with your friends. The entry form is now live on the website so if you would like to enter your child for this please sign up asap as spaces are limited. This year we are not going to have a dinner in the evening but instead will be doing a good old Itchenor tea on our return. We have a good number of teenage helpers to assist in the trip to the beach and back but are in need of volunteers, preferably with RIB’s to act as safety cover and support boats. I think we will need about 10 in total. Please let me know if you can volunteer for this.
That's it for now.
MIRROR NEWS 6th March 2017
For those doing Winter Training the next session is this weekend coming and the club is also running their Ready to Race day on Sunday for those who are interested. More info on the ISC website about that.
I have had a few people looking for helms and crews for Junior Fortnight. If anyone is planning on doing it and hasn't got anyone to sail with yet and is looking for someone then please let me know name and age, which event you want to do and whether you are helming or crewing and I will keep a list going which will hopefully mean people can pair up.
Maybe see some of you this weekend.
MIRROR NEWS 21st February 2017
The weather is starting to warm up and the sailing season is round the corner. We have our next winter training sessions on the weekends of the 11/12 March and 14/15 April. The 11th March co-incides with a very interesting talk by Phillipa Sutton Squire on he Open 40 'round the world' campaign of a few years ago. As matters stand we aren’t planning a dedicated social on the weekend of the 11/12 March but there is expected to be supper available for those who want it alongside attending the talk.
Also the club is holding the “Ready to Race” day on Saturday 12th March. This year there is an added reason to attend. There is a session on the new Sailing Instructions being used this season. These will make the racing better, hopefully safer and allow us to utilise more or the harbour. Make sure you attend so you don’t get caught out when leading your first race of the season.
The next big Winter training social is planned for the April / Easter event - details to follow.
There is a social programme on the ISC website for those that are interested up until April. If you would like to attend any of the events then please book with the club direct.
MIRROR NEWS 19th December 2016
It was great to see some of you this weekend at the Xmas party. A big thank you to Louise Wilson and Claire Hantrais for all their hard work in making it such a great night.
The 2017 dates for Mirror activities are now finalised and are as follows so please put in your diaries. This year we will be racing at the same time as the Toppers and the Lasers so hopefully we can make it a real family affair and get as many people on the water as possible. Racing will be on Sundays and will be 2 races back to back. There are a host of trophies up for grabs, not just for race winners!
This year we are re-introducing the Mirror beginners learn to sail sessions. These are mainly aimed at the kids who haven't done Winter Training and will be run by parents (you know who you are!). These will be run on Saturday afternoons so hopefully will not clash with school matches etc.
If anyone has any older kids who are interested in helping out at Max Mirror Mission at the beginning of summer half term please let me know.
Finally hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year and looking forward to seeing you all on the water in 2017!!

MIRROR NATIONALS 2017
For those of you who are interested and enjoyed the Nationals in ISC this summer and those who wished they had done it, 2017's Nationals and Worlds are being held at Restronguet SC in Falmouth Harbour at the end of July.
There are a number of us going down from Itchenor for the Nationals already and it would be great to have a good turn out if you fancy coming and joining us. Houses to rent get booked up so if you are planning on coming along it might be worth checking out the accommodation sooner rather than later.
The Nationals is being held Weds - Fri
(26-28 July), with the Worlds being held the following week Mon-Fri (annoyingly the same time as 1st week of Junior Fortnight), but you can go and just do the Nationals, just do the Worlds or do both.

Winter Training 22/23 October
Its winter training this weekend for those who have signed up. If you can't make it please can you let George in the ISC office know. George will be sending out the list of parent helpers shortly.
If anyone is looking for someone to sail with, Iona Slatter is short a crew for the weekend, get in touch with Deborah or Ben if you are also looking for someone to sail with!
Social on Saturday night:
The plan is to just do a supper as there is no-one up for organising any entertainment. Instead we are going to have a fab xmas party instead for all the junior classes so please put 17 December in your diaries!!
If you are planning on coming to the club for supper on Saturday night please can you sign up with the office.
Scary pork skeleton ribs with potato skin topped with cheese served with bar b q beans.
Sticky Toffee Pudding with caramel and fudge sauce.
Sole Roulade with sticky lemon sauce and seasonal vegetable.
Sticky toffee Pudding with bonfire caramel & fudge Sauce.
Film in the Members Room (if someone can bring a selection of children’s DVDs).
MIRROR NEWS 11th October
I'm in the process of planning the sailing programme for the Mirrors for next year and I would really like to reinstate the Learn to Sail coaching sessions that we did a few years ago for the inexperienced kids who aren't up for the winter training to help them to learn to sail. Would anyone be interested in helping out with this? It will be run entirely by parents and we will have to do an assistant instructors course (unless you already have this) which the club will run for us (probably in late March or April).
Please can you let me know if you would like to get involved asap, sailing experience would be useful! It really is reliant on us otherwise it won't happen.
Also Mirror Xmas party and Prize-giving will be on Saturday 17 December at the Club.
Although this is a winter training weekend the party will be open to all the Mirror fleet so please come along if you around.
MIRROR NEWS - 21st September 2016
40 boats turned up last Sunday for Barts Bash, of which I think one of the largest fleets were the Mirrors with 10 entries, so well done to everyone who came along. We had very light winds and a ripping tide but managed to get a race in before the tide changed and we were swept off to the Isle of Wight! It was great to see so many of you out there.
Winter Training starting this weekend

MIRROR NEWS - 9th September 2016
Barts Bash, 18 Sept
No racing for the Mirrors this weekend but next weekend Barts Bash is happening at 11.30 on Sunday, HW at 13.10 so tide will be coming in for the race. This is a pursuit race being held at clubs all over the world in aid of the Andrew Simpson Foundation. Further details to follow but it would be great to have a good turnout from the Mirrors!
If you are considering doing winter training but have not yet signed up, please can you do so with the office asap so we can arrange for the appropriate number of coaches.
I have a helm looking for a crew so if anyone is looking for someone to sail with please let me know and I'll put you in touch.
Hope back to school hasn't been to bad for you all! Still plenty of sailing to be done this year. Don't forget you can still go sailing even if nothing formal organised!!
MIRROR NEWS - 1st September 2016
Winter Training and sailing this weekend - September 3rd and 4th
Application forms are now on the ISC website to download and fill in for this winters training programme. These need to be printed off and returned to the club hard copy, its not online entry! Please can you let me know if you are thinking of doing the winter training as it would be useful to gauge how many coaches we need for the different classes. If your kids have enjoyed their sailing this summer and are keen to do more then this is a really good thing to come and do to keep the interest going. There are socials on all the weekends as well so they get to hang out with their mates as well as learn!
Sailing this weekend
There is Mirror racing on this weekend, starting at Transit which will be somewhere around the Galleon line or Wear depending on the weather.
Saturday - 14.30 start with 2 races back to back (high water 13.36)
Sunday - 11.05 start with 2 races back to back (high water 14.11)
The race officer for the weekend would like to know how many Mirrors are planning on racing this weekend so please can you let me know if you are planning on going out. We will probably have 2 boats going on Sunday but are not around Saturday. Forecast looking good so far, hope to see as many of you as possible, summer not over yet!!

Posted 1st September 2016
The Mirror Nationals have happened and been a very successful few days for our Itchenor sailors. I'd like to say congratulations to our new National Champions Bertie Fisher and his crew Felix Kent who won with a score of 1,1,4,4! We had 53 boats competing, tricky light winds but plenty of sunshine and Itchenor had a strong showing. The following were also prize winners and congratulations to all of you too:

Martin & Henry Jones - Winners Race 4, 8th overall.

Tom Ewart-Smith & Ellie Sproul - Leading helm & crew under 15 other than overall winner.

Hattie & Malcolm Glaister - Bronze fleet winners
Emelia House & Polly Ewart-Smith - last on points to complete all races.
Isabelle Aston & Zach Shepherd - Youngest combined age to start all races.

Posted 17th August 2016
Following on from the success of the first combined Youth and Junior Winter training programme in 2015/16 we are pleased to confirm that the programme for 2016/17 has now been agreed. Consequently we will shortly be inviting all youth and junior sailors who want improve their skills to apply for the 2016/17 training. For those that took part in the training last year the benefits were clearly seen at JF, with a very strong showing from many of the sailors who participated.
The proposed dates are as follows and have been set, we hope, to work with as many school ‘break’ dates as possible so that the training is available to as many as possible.
Session 1 - 24th & 25th September - all classes (Mirror, Topper, 420’s)
Session 2 - 22nd & 23rd October - all classes
Session 3 - 17th & 18th December - all classes
Session 4 - 11th & 12th March - all classes
Session 5 - 14th 7 15th April - all classes
Session 6 - 28th & 29th May - Mirror and Toppers Only
in order that we can commit to coaches and ensure that we can confirm rib requirements / availability with the club we ask that sailors commit to all sessions. In 2016/17 we won’t be offering one-off / adhoc access to training sessions. We have taken this decision to ensure that those sailors that attend regularly continue to build on the skills learnt in prior sessions. Costs will be advised once budgets have been confirmed.
We are hoping to have the following boats per class:
12-18 Mirrors - 2/3 trains groups based on experience
12 Toppers - 2 groups based on experience
6-12 420’s - 1/2 groups dependent on both skill and numbers
With respect to both the Mirror and Topper classes we have also decided this year (based on last year’s experiences) to set a minimum age for sailors. We want to make sure that all sailors are both willing and able to spend relatively long periods on the water in most conditions. Consequently all sailors applying must be in school year 6 or above - i.e. 10 years or older.
As ever these programmes only take place with much support from parents. We ask that all parents who have children participating commit to a minimum of one and hopefully a maximum of two duties. Our experience from last year suggest that these duties will be advised approximately 2 weeks before each session and parents will be drawn from those who confirm they are attending the session. Typically we will be looking to man between 6-9 ribs with a combination of coaches and safety crew. Where possible this year we will be looking to minimise the use of parent ribs given that many are out of the water for the winter however if you will be keeping a rib in or around the water and are happy for us to use it please let me know.
Last, but by no means least, we are also hoping to replicate the success of the socials that we held to coincide with the weekend. Mixing and matching with wider club socials we plan to have something for all ages to enjoy!
Watch this space and/or your class news for further information.
Max Mirror Mission 2016
Posted 1st June 2016
Take 2 for Max Mirror Mission was on Saturday 28 May, our first attempt having been postponed from a rather chilly early May bank holiday. Luckily the day dawned warm and sunny with a gentle north easterly breeze and ebbing tide boding well for our raid to East Head and back. 25 Mirrors took part, with 50 kids aged between 7 - 12 years old ably abetted by some of the older kids from the club to assist those either a bit to young to sail on their own or a bit nervous. The format was to sail to East Head beach in 4 groups, taking the last of the ebb tide, with parental support afloat shouting words of encouragement and lobbying sugary encouragement into the boats as they sailed along. On arrival at the beach we kept a close eye on the boats as the tide had now turned and was coming in while the kids ate their packed lunch provided by the club and then played beach games like Capture the Flag, British Bulldogs and Football organised by the teenage helpers.
When it was time to go home, it was an upwind sail, made shorter by the incoming tide, back to Itchenor. The day finished off with supper for kids and adults at the club. A great day was had by all, new friendships made and some new enthusiasts in sailing Mirrors.
Looking forward to next year's event!
