DATED 9th AUGUST 2010

Rebecca Kalderon, and her crew Katrina Brewer, have had a great summer. They  finished  4th at the 420 World Championships  in Haifa, Israel, and 2nd at the Belgian nationals.

At the worlds they were lying 4th after the qualification series so went into the gold fleet, top British girl. They finished 4th after 11 more races in the gold fleet, well ahead of the other British girls.

Rosie Sibthorp  was the only other Itchenor sailor at the worlds. She  was the only girl sailing in the men’s fleet – very tough!

All the worlds sailors had to compete in the Youth Nationals and two other open meetings. Their results over the 3 events were combined and the top 7 all girl boats were selected and the top boy or mixed boats.

Rebecca and Katrina’s warm-up was  coming second overall (boys and girls) in the Vlaanderenm Regatta at Nieuwpoort, Belgium, before flying off to Haifa. Whilst the worlds are divided into all girl and boy or mixed fleets, the Flanders event was not. So Rebecca and Katrina beat all the British boys as well as the girls!

4 Itchenor sailors went to the French Nationals, in Brest. This was open to anyone who wanted to take part.  Hugo Sloper and Xander Morrison, Ollie Smyth and Izzy FitzGerald were part of an 11 boat British contingent. It was a blustery week and none of the Itchenor sailors made the gold fleet but all had fun.

DATED 7th JUNE 2010

It was great to see so many of you on the water over half term whether helping at Max Mirror Mission, training on Thurs or Fri or racing on Sat and Sun.

Two things to note:
1. The Junior Fortnight notice of race requires you to have completed 3 club races BEFORE July 24
2. The sailing committee has decided to reinstate the rule that to have a place on the stage a boat must complete 10 club races excluding JF.
So…
June 13th - 1 race starting at Betivuka at 11.00
June 19/20th - an opportunity to do a mini regatta with lots of races?
June 26/27th - was supposed to be training but we've had a lot of training and no one has signed up for this session so how about more racing?

July 3/4th - two back to back races both days
July 10/11th - 1 race on Sat and 2 on Sun, all from Betivuka
July 17/18th - 2 races on both Sat & Sun, all from the bandstand

I'm also hoping to run evening races on
June 23rd
July 7th
July 21st

I didn't have enough takers to organise a camp during the mirror training week. However I have now had a couple of people interested in training July 21-23rd.
So I will organise daily training. This is in addition to the preJf training on July 24/25th which has previously been on a rather more casual basis to fit round people registering etc.

This means there are 15 races in the programme with two weekends which could be regattas with lots of races (8 per weekend??) – so definitely a chance for everyone to qualify for JF.

Please could you let me know what you want to do.
So far I have Will & Charlie Hartley and Jake and Buster Woolfenden (in 2 boats??) for July 21/23rd and July 24/25th.

NEW CLASS CAPTAIN
Delighted you are interested in 420s!
We’re so lucky at Itchenor – we have lots of 420s, some excellent sailors to help us and a great clubhouse and sailing water.
Let’s really use it this whole year. The great thing about winter training and sailing should be the parties afterwards……(Tara and Lisa over to you).
