Lightening hits Itchenor Mirrors at Nationals 2006

On the 22/23 July, 15 Itchenor Mirrors travelled to Poole to compete in the National Championships. They arrived with high hopes and got some very good results. On Saturday morning it was hot and sunny with almost no wind. Everyone was ready for a sunny day but that was not going to happen. They got on the water and it stared to rain slightly but no-one was put off. Soon it became harder that the thunder started. To top that off the fog was closing in on them. As soon as the lightening came people stated to panic. There were a few capsizes and half the fleet dropped their gaffs. Eventually everyone was in and safe. Later that afternoon it cleared up and they went back out. After about an hour of black flags, the first race started with Jack Yeoman and Chantal Crane coming 8th and 9th.

On Sunday the wind was very light giving the mirrors only 2 of the four races they had doped for. Edward Fitzgerald and James Wallace finishing first in race 3. Everyone got great results with
Jack Yeoman and Chantal Crane 6th;
Edward Fitzgerald and James Wallace 13th;
Rebecca Kalderon and Olivia Peacock 15th;
Will and Jo Kalderon 16th;
Sam Hartley and Charlie Fletcher 20th;
