21 Jun ROUND THE ISLAND RACE
Our very own Roving Reporter was out there on Saturday and we've received the following report:

NOW UPDATED at 22 June

A fast race with relatively little spinnaker work (only from the start to the Needles) and a not much tacking either in the Northerly breeze (which had been forecast to drop, but instead increased. Tidal tactics, particularly round the back of the Island and through Sandown Bay were characteristically important. The long windward leg to Bembridge was quite tough and waterline length made a difference in the bouncy seas. It had been a very early start (Team Jazz on parade at 03.45!) and the first boat home finished at 09.30!

IRC Div 0 Elapsed 05.45 Velsheda (Simon Shaw) (1st in Group)
Div 1a 07.02 Jinja (Kit Glover) (2nd)
Div 1c 07.33 Jazz (Willie Smythe) (6th)
Div 0 07.33 Petite Lune (Mike Burnford) (22nd)
ISC 3d 08.36 Tattarat (Tony Glover) (3rd)
Div 3c 08.37 Trudi (Phillip Mcdanell) (15th)
Div 3d 08.40 Flying Boat (Michael Shaw) (11th)
Div 3d 08.48 Scallywag (Stevie Lawrence (6th)

Any more RTIR stories from out in the blue yonder?

The Stig!

2 Apr Ian Voller

As the new season approaches, our Boatswain, Ian Voller has decided that he would like to focus more on his main career interest as a marine engineer. After much thought, he has decided to leave the Club so that he can set up in business on his own.

Ian has looked after our boats with great skill and dedication over the twelve years that he has been with the club on and off. I am pleased to report that we will still be able to benefit from that service as Ian will continue to maintain our boats on a contracted out basis.

Stephen, our Secretary and Louise, our Sailing Manager are busy recruiting a replacement boatman who will have many of the same responsibilities that Ian had, but not that of maintaining our boats.

For those of you who have outboards or indeed any other marine engines, Ian will be operating from Dell Quay Yacht Yard. His full details will be on the Club notice board but his mobile phone number is 07899 680002.

Many of you will want to join the Flag Officers in thanking Ian for his hard work over the years and wishing him all success in his new venture. Ian's last day at work will be Monday 5 April. We are facilitating a collection for a leaving present. If you would like to join in, please send a cheque to the Office made payable to ISC. We suggest that a maximum donation to that fund would be £10.
