SUCCESS FOR CHARTREUSE
The first success of the season in the XOD class at Itchenor Sailing Club was recorded by Chartreuse X171 sailed by Colin McKinnon, Neil Hart and David Foster. They won the April Fools Mug scoring four 1st places from the six races held in April.

Despite the early April snow the Itchenor XOD fleet is launched and ready for a packed racing schedule until the end of October. “In addition to our traditionally competitive Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning races, we have introduced less serious races on Saturday morning and Wednesday evenings to encourage new sailors to experience the joy of sailing in a classic sailing craft,” says Bill Barnes, XOD class captain at Itchenor.

2 Apr WATER QUALITY IN THE HARBOUR - BEWARE
Mariners are advised that the following advice has been issued by the Environmental Health Department at Chichester District Council concerning discharges from the sewage works north of Dell Quay in the Fishbourne Channel:
"The Sewage works at Appledram Lane is currently surcharging due to an excessive amount of ground water entering the works. In line with industry standards the excess water that cannot be fully treated goes through a settlement stage and is screened before being piped into the harbour. Therefore diluted raw sewage is present in the harbour water.
At this stage the District Council is awaiting formal results from the Env ironment Agency as to the actual levels of contamination present before being able to give any firm direction to users of the harbour as to the safety of the water. In the meantime the Council is advising that all water users adopt a precautionary stance with regard to exposure and to that end;
Do not immerse yourself unnecessarily - ie capsize drills
Cover all cuts and grazes with waterproof dressings before going onto the water.
Do not eat or drink whilst on the water.
Ensure that you thoroughly wash hands and face when clear of the water and before eating or drinking.
"

BARRY NASH 1934 - 2007
Died in his sleep at home on Friday the 30th of March 2007.
Barry was the boatswain at Itchenor Sailing Club for more than 25 years.  A great many members attended his retirement party in 1999. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time, and members will reflect on the happy times that Barry enjoyed at the club and the high regard in which he was held by the members for so many years.

A TRIBUTE
Members will have heard of the very sad and sudden death of Barry our boatswain for so many years.

Colin Marr, the redoubtable former Secretary and Barry's boss for many years, has given us this affectionate tribute. It is worth remembering that such was the high regard for Barry, that the Club named a rib after him called Bravo November (BN), and it would be nice to think that when you use it you think for a few moments of the huge and lasting contribution that Barry made to this running of the club and its racing over the years.

There are many members who, when they tie a knot or raise a flag, do so with a thought for Barry - just to check if it has been done in the way that he would have demanded! It is to him that we owe much of the culture and attitude of the high standard of race management at ISC today.
