16 Jan DION HOUGHTON
It is with the greatest regret that I have to tell you that our good friend Dion died quietly and in peace early this morning Tuesday 15th January. Those who knew him well will recognise what a true gentlemen, generous friend and delightful raconteur he was. Those who knew him less well need only to read the ISC Handbook under 2006 winner of the Burnford Needle to understand a little of this gentleman. "An outstanding ambassador for the XOD Class and Itchenor Sailing Club". He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.I will communicate the funeral details once available. Bill Barnes. 13 Jan CLUB DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
As we pass the halfway point in clubhouse improvement works contractors are working hard to insure the clubhouse opens in time for the new sailing season. The structural work is done, the kitchen extension is now built and roofed and the new drainage run is connected to the sewer in the lane. The concrete floor slab is complete and contractors are now beginning the internal first fix. Nutbourne continue to man the site well - on average between 12-15 men on site (though some days see 20 or more) and the Development Committee are generally pleased with the situation on site. Neighbours and members have shown great forbearance and patience through this winter of a closed and noisy club - the Development and General Committee would like to thank you again for your support

In our fortnightly team site meetings contractors remain confident that the works are on time - although they acknowledge they will have a big push at the end for the final fix. The best assessment of the Development Committee at this point is that it will be a close run thing - there is still a lot to be done - but should all run to plan from here on (and the most risky, time delaying structural work is behind us) we should open on, or very near to time.

Meanwhile check out the new enlarged windows to the dining room which went in this last week. The promise of lovely new light can be seen - even through the grey British winter and constant builders dust! (New pictures now on the website.)
