SO NEAR YET SO FAR
The Itchenor Youth Team competed in the final stage of the Selection Trials for the chance to represent GBR at the Under 21 ISAF Team Racing 2007 World Championships in Valencia. After a tight three way play-off on Rutland Water they finished Runners-Up, one point off the lead. In the end a team of university sailors from Bristol, Exeter and Warwick prevailed but the good news is that our team members are young enough to have another attempt in 2009.
The team was:
Andy Shaw & Tom Hodkinson
Rob Struckett & Jilli Darling
George Yeoman & Georgie Akin-Smith |

The architects and designers appointed by the club to progress the next phase of the clubhouse improvements presented their detailed plans and costings to the General Committee this morning, 28th June. The General Committee was highly impressed with the scheme and voted unanimously in favour of proceeding. The next step is that members will be sent a detailed mailing in early July and asked to vote for or against the scheme. Drawings are currently on display in the Dining Room and will be posted on the web site in the next few days.
Any comments or questions should be addressed to the Development Committee- Chris Darling, Sue Kalderon, Philip Pascal, Jean Pudney, Alistair Shaw or emailed to the Development Committee. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO EMAIL |

The Development Committee has been hard at work over the past months finalising plans and specifications for the replacement of the current kitchen and refurbishment of the dining room. Architects, kitchen consultants, engineers and surveyors have all been selected and appointed and design work is proceeding well.
These designs will be presented to the General Committee at the end of June and should everything go to plan, they will be circulated along with the funding proposals to members in July, when there will be an opportunity to vote for or against the scheme.
If you the members approve, then we will break ground in October this year and finish for the start of the 2008 sailing season.
Once we have the kitchen / dining room project underway then the Development Committee will turn its attention to the Jubilee Room extension, the intention being to circulate amended proposals for this later this year.
Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the above then please feel free to raise it with any member of the Development Committee. In the meantime please keep an eye on the website, notice boards and your post as we keep you up to date!

Our heartiest congratulations go to James Wallace for his tremendous result in the Power Boat Handling competition recently held at Cowes. James came 4th overall
having entered the competition on his own initiative with a view to winning the first prize of a RIB not for himself but for Itchenor Sailing Club. Well done James and thank you for your efforts for the club! |

Members may have wondered what has happened to the Tide Clock over the past few weeks. It has been removed for renovation as it was falling apart. Tony Bridgewater kindly offered to do the work and it is nearly finished. The area over the door will be freshly decorated, and when the clock has new lettering, it will be back again. Tony has said that it won't be too pristine and may well be slightly "distressed" so that it is in keeping with the "used look" so appreciated at ISC! |
