A big thank you to the PRO Roddy Bridge and his team who had challenging weather conditions but managed to get all the races sailed.Saturday

Am Race: Very light and a shifty breeze.
The fleet started near Rookwood and stayed close together for most of the race. Rounding the marks was not a quiet place! and left many opportunities for place changes.  Solitude and Marengo managed to slip away leaving the rest of the fleet to play.  BUT the race is never over till the end. The wind dropped leaving breathless holes, some boats sailed (drifted past) Park and struggled to get back meanwhile Buccaneer had quietly crept up on the leaders and with the special touch (boys, are you sharing this?) sailed through Marengo to take second place, Boomerang closed in and took 4th place.
1st Solitude
2nd Buccaneer
3rd Marengo
4th Boomerang

PM Race: Prospects of a windless day but the PRO held on and finally the sea breeze kicked in
The fleet started near Thorney and just before the start there was a wind change making pin end the favourable end. With 21 boats all pushing to start a few loud calls could be heard. Fantastic sailing with tides playing an important role.  There was an unusal course change at Lowles which confused the 1st boat Skua, who had taken her spinnaker down to round the buoy ready for the beat back to Dunes only to find a safety boat changing the course to go on to Park!  meanwhile other boats took advantage of the course change and were able to crawl up the shore without going near Lowles.  The final legs home: Skua raced to the finish, Archon and Buccaneer battled for 2nd and 3rd place taking the Itchenor side from Ellanore and when the next bunch of boats rounded Ellanore, Spectre was the only boat to take the Thorney shore which gave a chance for her to sneak into 4th place.  ocs with I flag  took out a couple of boats at the front which meant overall places changed.
1st Skua
2nd Buccaneer
3rd Spectre
4th Blue Phantom

Sunday AM Race: Perfect breeze starting in the Rookwood area.
Course: OR (outside gate symbol) x3 O8F

Bluff made an excellent start on the pin end and took advantage of sneaking out of the tide. Bluff and Swift had an epic battle (5 gruelling beats) with Bluff taking honours. Sadly Solitude and Curlew who were closedly following behind on the second beat had forgotton about the OUTSIDE GATE and turning back let Marengo sneak through closely followed by Serenade. Some boats had taken the Thorney shore on the first beat and Archon was reported to have gone up the Lowles channel and struggled to find navigable waters the other end.
1st Bluff
2nd Swift
3rd Marengo
4th Serenade

PM Race: Postponement was definitely needed by the weary Swallow sailors from the morning race

The breeze had freshened steady F5 with vigorous gusts.
The fleet were eager to start and by the time the gun went nearly all the fleet was over. PRO had no hestiation to put us to the back of the programme. When we were finally started the Black flag was hoisted; oh dear, no chance to push up this time.
Cockersootie showed us how to sail in a breeze leaving the fleet behind. The runs were exciting and a few rolls were to be seen. Rumour has it one boat filled up and it took 15minutes of hard bailing to stop the boat sinking.
1st Cockersootie
2nd Solitude
3rd Curlew
4th Serenade

A great weekend sailing.
The 2 races a day finishing on Sunday was clearly a very good decision – particulary with Monday blown away with gales.

PS: Check your new Spinnaker Poles as I have had quite a few boats report the string to pull the ends has snapped.
