Here at Itchenor Sailing Club we have years of experience of training all levels of sailors so that they can be confident on the water as well as providing advanced courses and RYA accreditation.
All our training courses can be booked online here, or for further information please contact Ryan, our Sailing Manager.
We are also happy to arrange bespoke one to one training to help develop skills or can put you in touch with a recommended instructor for your requirements.
Below is an overview of current scheduled courses and prices (please note all prices include books and certificates and are subject to VAT).

RYA Youth Stages 1-4
The youth sailing scheme provides an enjoyable and progressive way to learn to sail. As you progress through each stage you will learn valuable skills that will help your sailing development across a range of boats. Once all stages are completed the next step is the advanced and racing modules.

RYA Advanced Modules
As in all sports, practice is essential if you are to improve your skills and the best way to become a good sailor is to have sailed a variety of boats in different conditions. The advanced modules offer a range of courses that introduce sailing with spinnakers to planning a sailing trip. They will help polish and test your skills and provide a great base for starting out in racing or instructing.

RYA Racing
If you would like to get involved with the racing scene here at ISC but are not sure how to go about it then this is the course for you. This two-day course can be in your own boat or in a Club 2000.
The course will give you the confidence to take part in club racing and explain how to approach a race and the techniques and rules to think about whilst on a race course.

RYA Adult Learn to Sail
Course dates: tbc
RYA Assistant Dinghy Instructor 13+
A first step on the instructor pathway, this two-day course gives a good insight into how a dinghy instructor works and covers the RYA Method and the skills and values needed to become an instructor. This is an in house qualification, meaning you can only teach at the place it was gained.
Those who do this qualification often go on to do their Dinghy Instructor at a later date.

RYA Dinghy Instructor Course 16+
This course is to train experienced small boat sailors and assess their competence to teach dinghy sailing to adults and children. It assumes candidates are competent and experienced small boat sailors, capable of sailing a dinghy confidently in strong winds and handling small powerboats. Prerequisites for this course are: a good standard of dinghy sailing; RYA Powerboat Level 2; valid First Aid certificate, as well as RYA Safe and Fun Safeguarding Certificate.
In order to be accepted for training, candidates will have to pass a Pre-Assessment which takes the form of a practical sailing test in a double handed dinghy conducted by an RYA Coach/Assessor.

RYA Senior Instructor 18+
We offer advanced courses for those who have successfully completed the Dinghy Instructor Course and have the prerequisite experience. Please contact Ryan for more details.
RYA Basic First Aid
Our one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.
This is the recommended course for those looking to gain any RYA Instructor Qualification or help out with any ISC event.

Powerboat Level 2
This course provides the skills and background knowledge required by a competent powerboat driver and is the basis for the International Certificate of Competence.
It includes boat handling, close quarters handling, leaving and coming alongside, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations.
This course is a prerequisite for members wishing to be included on our paid support drivers list. Minimum age 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsement.

ISC Safety Boat Skills & PB2 Accreditation - Members only
This is in house training that has been designed to help and refine powerboat drivers rescuing skills. The layout of the day will be 90% practical 10% theory, with the aim for you to practice the rescues as much as possible.
It covers: Boat handling (pontoon leaving and returning); rib placement (racing and training); casualty recovery (drift down/head up methods); righting capsized and total inversion dinghies; recovery of boats stuck on the mud and keelboat recovery (theory only).
