Free to a good home for.........a Firefly dinghy, or at least the remains of one.
Really only for someone who really needs to have a firefly and can restore it from the bottom up. Be a lot easier and cheaper to buy a new boat!
The dinghy was acquired in around 1973 in Devon and kept and sailed at Starcross on the river Exe until for some years. It was last restored around 20years ago and sailed at Itchenor on Chichester Harbour. Since then it has sat in the front garden in Haslemere awaiting more TLC. I always imagined that I would restore and sail it but............ Now needs a bottom up restoration which sadly I can't see having the time to do.
It has always sailed under the sail number 211 - though what that means is anyones guess. The chandler at Itchenor reckoned that at least some of it dated from then. It has some form of composite hull but to a normal wooden deck and fittings with what seems to be an original aluminium mast. The only thing missing as far as I know is most of the rudder.
It's sitting on an old snipe road trailer which can go with it - though as the road trailer has not been on the road for 20 years I would not want to use it until its been serviced.
A couple of pictures of the last restoration and outing - and the current neglected hulk,
