Staff Fund
Dear Fellow Member, What a year we have had! The Club has been busy in almost every respect. The Sunbeams and the Swallows both celebrated major anniversaries afloat and ashore with record attendances throughout the Season, whilst the XODs returned to reclaim the Phillipson Shield at Cowes Week, including 1,2,3 overall (no points for guessing who won, because team Astralita won every race week they entered as far afield -or afloat- as Poole and

Dainty the Sunbeam - 17th year of competing in France.
Peter Nicholson and team drove his Sunbeam across France in late September to compete in Les Regattes Royales in Cannes and Les Voiles de St Tropez. They are on their way home as I write. Dainty is of course a great favourite with the French who think it is quite a feat to drive all that way every year. There was very little wind and the courses prohibitively long for a little boat in

Great River Race 16th September 2023
Its been likened to the London Marathon on the water, with 228 boats and crews, drawn from all over including Holland, Belgium, Spain, USA, Canada and even New Zealand. Closer to home, 2 crews from Itchenor, made the journey to London to row the 21.6 miles from Millwall to Richmond. The event is designed specifically for fixed-seat boats, so our Solent Galley Bembridge and our Celtic Longboat Iccanore, were representing the Club.

Junior Fortnight 2023
200 young competitors aged between 8 and 18, their families and 120 boats competed in this year's Junior Fortnight at Itchenor Sailing Club. Unlike the 2022 event which had been wall to wall sunshine the event was characterised by two weeks of rain and strong winds. Despite the weather, spirits were not dampened and competitors were treated to exhilarating and highly competitive racing in the beautiful backdrop of Chichester Harbour accompanied by

Cowes Week 2023
40 boats signed up for Cowes Week this year, with 11 boats from Itchenor. There were a wide range of sailing conditions but unfortunately two days of racing were abandoned due to very strong winds. Saturday saw the fleet in Osbourne bay sailing into force 5 to 6 from WSW and a west going tide. The course had a series of beats and runs from the island across the channel to the south of Ryde

Int14 Prince of Wales Cup 2023
The legendary Price of Wales Cup, first raced in 1927 has had its fair share of memorable races. Every sailor in the fleet has a story from an iconic P.O.W of the past and its safe to say the 2023 iteration of the race lived up to the high standards. The unusually long nature of the P.O.W race brings a different set of challenges to what the I14 fleet usually faces; with

National Swallow 75th Anniversary Celebrations in Cowes.
Cowes Classics Week 2023 Another glorious few days of racing! 26 boats joined the fun and this time Gwaihir did not have it all her own way. The breeze was generally up, there were a couple of halyard failures, but our Swallows held together well for some wet and bouncy beats and thrilling spinnaker legs. The Swallow Class was awarded the Queen Victoria Cup

International 14 - RBYC Trophy - 25th June 2023
The International 14 Royal Bermuda YC trophy is traditionally a one-day event held out in Bracklesham or Hayling Bay. Its timing this year was perfect, offering teams some practice out of the harbour before the Prince of Wales Cup to be held on the same waters in mid-July. The sun was out and breeze was a perfect 15-17 knots from the south west. Due to the gradient wind direction the sea state

I14 Gallon - 17th June 2023
The Gallon is a historic race around Chichester Harbour for the International 14s. With an expected run time of 2-3 hours, it is the must win event outside of the Prince of Wales Cup, also being held at Itchenor SC this year. The fleet arrived at Itchenor to a warm but calm harbour, and were kept ashore for a short period whilst the RC waited for the breeze to fill in.
