Itchenor Keelboat Week - XOD race report

Itchenor Keelboat Week was attended by 27 XOD's with 6 guest boats sailing with us, and one guest on Merlin!

With over 100 boats on the water, it began hot and sunny with just enough wind to get down harbour, out to Beach and Treloar, round a few others and back, but gradually as the week progressed so we lost the sun and wind to overcast and rain.

Wednesday we managed a delicious XOD supper, a huge thanks to the staff and volunteers who made it possible in these difficult circumstances. They were fantastic - happy friendly part faces (all masked) beavering way at drinks, and food.

Thursday the heavens opened whilst the entire fleet of all the keelboats were meandering around the sunken Lowes waiting for some wind the got less and less with water pouring down our necks off the sails. After postponing the race, a huge club tow ensued, all the ribs on deck! Damian could be seen drinking his tinned G&T's at the back of Wenda enjoying the ride home.

Back on sodden land and completely soaked through, there were the smiley staff on hand to let our wet bodies into the club, the only request was please don't sit in your wet gear on the seats. The floors must have been sodden, so thank you to everyone who was really helpful and understanding.

So Friday's 2 races finished the week in heavy rain!

I can't leave the week without grateful thanks to all the staff and volunteers who took us out and back from our moorings - gave us drinks and food with everyone in good cheer.

On behalf of the X's I want to thank the Race Officer and his team for all their efforts in getting over 100 boats out to race in difficult circumstances in their first year of "office," it must have been a daunting week.
