Racing rules of sailing talk by John Doerr
Interactive discussion about the racing rules of sailing aimed at keelboat sailors by one of the worlds experts John Doerr.
Arrival: 10am to grab teas and coffees beforehand
Talk Starts: 10:30am in the Members Room
John Doerr has over 40 years of experience as an International Judge, including 8 Olympic Games and 4 Americas Cups. As an active racing sailor, JD (as he is known) has won a sailboat race in each of the last 62 years! However, he has his feet on the ground regarding the racing rules.
JD believes that understanding how sailors can apply the rules at racing speed is fundamental to being competitive. He also believes that race officials need to have relevant rules at their fingertips. Both are aimed at enjoying our wonderful sport on the water and minimising our time in disputes, including the protest room.
He will introduce his unique method for applying the rules while racing that he has developed being crew member and an International Judge and Umpire.
Experience shows that people enjoy his rules talks and the easy and relaxed way he brings the rules across and connects with the fellow sailors. JD will make all his material available to your Club.
