Dell Quay Centenary Rowing Regatta

Published 15:39 on 8 Aug 2025

Last Saturday August 2nd - 2 teams of Itchenor Rowers took part in the Centenary regatta.

8 Celtic longboats, from around the harbour, gathered on the rising tide on Dell Quays pontoon. Races between 2 or 3 boats were started at 2 minute intervals on a 2 km course round the cans from the Dell Quay start line.

Our first race was for men proved to be rather a learning curve, particularly on the start line. If the boat is even one inch over the line then you have to do a 360 degree turn!

Fortunately we were not over but due to our shyness on the line we were rather late in starting and did not record a good time.

Our cox, Christine, had learned a bit about starting after the first race so got her act together for the mixed race - where we managed to be right on the line at the right time.

Our teams comprised:

Men: Chris Blevins, Jeremy Thompson, Neil Prior and Ian Morris coxed by Christine Graves.

Mixed: Nancy Von Koettlitz, Antonia Yendell, Chris Blevins, Neil Prior coxed by Christine Graves
