On Saturday 8th November Itchenor crews joined others from Bosham and CRA in this seasons second Swift Winter Series event and at CYC in the first of the 3 Harbours winter Celtic Longboats events, in which eight clubs took part. It is remarkable how rowing has spread over the 3 Harbours in the last few years.
As usual both Bosham Sailing Club rowers and CYC rowers put on great fun, very sociable and smooth running events. We were helped by delightful weather and seriously high spring tides to creat a great day for all.
In the Swift event at Bosham we had 16 Rowers and coxes out in Ladies Doubles and Quad Mixed Development, Ladies, Mens and Mixed crews.
Congratulations to Sarah Murphy and Mariella Fleming in Womens doubles who frightened off the competition over a 3km course in 19 minutes 11 seconds and to Roanne Weekes, Sarah Murphy, Jonty Lacey and Andrew Graham with Felicity Smith as cox in the mixed Quad for their win by just 10 seconds over a 25 minute, 5km race!
Well done and thank you to others who trained and competed valiantly in the other classes, to those who turned out to support and to Jeremy Thompson and Roanne Weekes for towing the boats to both Bosham and CYC (see below) and back from Bosham.
ISC fielded a mixed crew in Iccanore in a 3km race at the CYC Celtic Longboat regatta. Our gallant and rugged crew rowed back to the club after the race to ensure we were back before sunset!
There is one more Swift event before Christmas, also hosted by Bosham, on 6th December and the first event of 2026 is at Itchenor on 24th January, please contact Keith Roberts on Keith.sandytrail@hotmail.com and sign up now to be a part of these and/or future fixed seat racing events.
