Itchenor smashes it at the 420 Nationals!

It was amazing to see eight Itchenor sailors (India Eastwood, Tom Eastwood, Zac Shepherd, Pippa Shepherd, Ed Upton Brown, Elsie Upton Brown, Felix Garlick, Rupert Garlick) participate in the 420 Nationals at Felixstowe Ferry in August. Conditions were tough with light winds compounded by big waves and extraordinarily strong tides. Getting to the start line was more challenging than crossing the Chichester Bar at low tide in springs! However, over the course of the week the wind strength increased and the sun shone. Overall, it was a brilliant event with great fun on and off the water with social events rivalling those of Junior Fortnight.
At the end of the championship we had three Itchenor boats finishing in the top 10 with Zac coming second overall, India coming 7th and Pippa coming 10th. Zac was the first mixed pairing overall, India the second all girl boat, Pippa the first U17 boat and Rupert won the first U15 boat and best newcomer. Wowzers. Full results are available here. Congratulations to all concerned.
Whilst we love the fact that some of our top sailors are competing at such a high level we also recognize for some there is no where better than Itchenor and Chichester Harbour and so our weekly racing continues until the end of October, starting again in March! If there are any sailors wanting to know more about the 420 class or thinking about transitioning into it please contact Mark Timberlake/Prof Fox as Itchenor 420 Class Captain or our very own Piers Shepherd as Chair of the 420 Class Association.
