Rowing Newsflash - YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

Published 12:16 on 4 Nov 2024

We are delighted that the 3 Harbours Head of the Harbour Rowing Event is to be hosted by ISC this year on 23 November.

This is an annual event celebrating coastal rowing across Chichester, Langstone and Portsmouth Harbours.  It also attracts crews from considerably further afield.  It is open to all kinds of coastal rowing boats and will consist of a Womens Handicap Race, Mens Handicap Race and a Mixed Handicap Race.   It is anticipated that up to 50 boats may attend, launching at Itchenor Hard.  This is a high profile event and we would like to maintain ISCs excellent reputation for well organised and hosted rowing regattas.

Please contact Ian Barnett on mimadhouse19@gmail.com if you are interested in competing in a fixed seat boat (Iccanore or Bembridge), and Keith Roberts on keith.sandytrail@hotmail.com if you have sculling experience and would like to row in Quadrille.

We will also need a lot of volunteers, both shore side and on the water, to make things run smoothly, including beach and jetty masters, marshals, rib drivers, people to deal with registering competitors - this list is not exhaustive!  If you are able to assist please message Ian Barnett on mimadhouse19@gmail.com.

The fee for competitors will be £15, of which £10 will go to the club and £5 to the 3 Harbours network for supporting coastal rowing across the region.

It is anticipated that the timetable will be as follows:

9.00  :  arrival, unloading and launching

9.45  :  Coxswains briefing

10.00: Womens Handicap race

11.15: Mens Handicap race

12.30: Mixed Handicap race

Racing should finish about 14.30 with Pennants Presentation from 15.30.  The Pennants are sponsored by the Chichester Harbour Federation and will be presented by the ChiFed Chairman.

The course will be about 10km from ISC to East Head buoy and back.

Refreshments will of course be available at the Club for members and guests.

Please do sign up as a rower, cox or volunteer!
